“Música en tus Manos” + The Americas Project at Iglesia Evangelica Bautista

Dolce Suono Ensemble’s “Música en tus Manos” (Music in Your Hands) and The Americas Project are underway in spring 2015. On Sunday, May 3, 2015, we gave a concert, conversation, and instrument “petting zoo” at our partner organization Iglesia Evangelica Bautista. DSE artists Mimi Stillman, flute and Artistic Director, Gideon Whitehead, guitar, Gabriel Globus-Hoenich, percussion, and guest Celina Velez, viola, performed selections by Devienne, Ibert, Piazzolla, Brazilian choros by Pixinguinha and Altamiro Carrilho, and the traditional Cuban song “Guantanamera” with lyrics by José Martí. The audience joined enthusiastically in song and percussion, and the instrument “petting zoo,” in which people try instruments with the guidance of the artists, was particularly popular with the children in attendance.

DSE thanks our sponsors the Knight Foundation through the Knight Arts Challenge, the William Penn Foundation, and the Yamaha Corporation of America for their valuable support. Yamaha provided the flute and cello for the instrument “petting zoo.”

Join us Saturday, May 30 at 7:00pm for the “Música en tus Manos”  concert featuring guest artists Pablo Reyes, voice and guitar, and Solomiya Ivakhiv, violin in music by Ponce, Rota, a world premiere by Zhou Tian, and boleros, choros, sambas, and joropos. Tickets here.
