DSE Música en tus Manos performance at the Fleisher Art Memorial

On Wednesday November 1, 2023, Dolce Suono Ensemble had a wonderful experience performing for the Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) Vigil at the Fleisher Art Memorial. Thank you to the Fleisher team for hosting us as part of our Música en tus Manos (Music in Your Hands) project celebrating chamber and popular music by Latin American and Latino composers, and engaging Philadelphia’s Latino communities. Our trio of Mimi Stillman, flute, Charles Abramovic, piano, and Gabriel Globus-Hoenich, percussion was delighted to take part in this rich Mexican tradition, and perform for a very enthusiastic audience in the beautiful space. The decorations for the ofrenda were created by artists Yvonne and Erica.

Here’s a video clip of the iconic Mexican folksong “La llorona,” which is associated with the Day of the Dead rituals.

Thank you to our project supporters William Penn Foundation, The Presser Foundation, The Musical Fund Society of Philadelphia, Philadelphia Cultural Fund, Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance for making Música en tus Manos possible.
