Dolce Suono Ensemble’s 2017-2018 season features great works of chamber music and scintillating artists in thought-provoking, innovative programs!

Music in the Second Capital: exploring the musical tastes of the Founding Fathers and music culture in Philadelphia around the founding of the nation. This project is made possible by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts as part of its Art Works Imagine Your Parks initiative celebrating the centennial of the National Park Service and the 50th anniversary of the NEA.

Katherine Needleman, oboe, is featured guest in a program of works by Corelli, Mozart, Pleyel, J.C. Bach, Haydn, Hopkinson, and more.

Música en tus Manos (Music in Your Hands)

Our trio of Mimi Stillman, flute, Nathan Vickery, cello, and Charles Abramovic, piano performs works by Turina and Rorem with DSE commissions, and are joined by Gabriel Globus-Hoenich, percussionist, for music from Latin America. This concert is preceded by a residency by our artists with Pan-American Academy music students, in collaboration with their music teacher Celina Velez.

Claude Debussy Centennial Festival

Two Concerts

We return to the French master, to whom we devoted the 2012-2013 season in celebration of his 150th anniversary, this time to look at his chamber and vocal music at the centennial of his death in 1918. Our all-star cast includes soprano Sarah Shafer and harpist Bridget Kibbey, making her Dolce Suono Ensemble debut, along with Mimi Stillman, flute, Ricardo Morales, clarinet, Amy Oshiro-Morales, violin, Che-Hung Chen, viola, Gabriel Cabezas, cello, Nathan Vickery, cello, Charles Abramovic, piano, and others.

Saturday, September 9, 2017 – We open our season away at the Brandywine River Museum as the Dolce Suono Ensemble trio (Stillman, Vickery, Abramovic) presents a special concert celebrating the 100th anniversary of Andrew Wyeth, in a program including Jennifer Higdon’s American Canvas, commissioned by DSE, with a movement devoted to Wyeth

Sunday, November 12, 2017 – Dolce Suono Ensemble trio (Stillman, Vickery, Abramovic) performs on the Music at Bunker Hill series (Sewell, NJ)

Sunday, December 3 & Monday, December 4, 2017 – Mimi Stillman performs as soloist with the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia and Maestro Dirk Brossé in a program of Mozart, Brossé (U.S. premiere), and Piazzolla related to the season of improvisation.

Friday, January 19, 2018 – Dolce Suono Ensemble trio (Stillman, Cabezas, Abramovic) performs on the Friends of Chamber Music of Reading series

Sunday, April 15, 2018 – Dolce Suono Ensemble trio (Stillman, Vickery, Abramovic) performs on the Delaware County Community College new music series

Sunday, May 6, 2018 – Mimi Stillman performs as soloist with the Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle in Durham, NC
