Meet Winston F. Schneider

Thirteen-year-old WINSTON F. SCHNEIDER is a composer, pianist and cellist. He’s received considerable acclaim for his solo, chamber, and orchestral works, and is the recipient of over 22 composition awards. Schneider was featured in a NET/PBS series “What If…Winston, Young Composer;” and “Nebraska Stories: Winston, Kid Composer;” and nationally on the PBS “Arts Canvas” website, “Bugs and Books Become Inspiration for this 11-year-old Composer.”

His curiosity and passion for other areas of study inform his music. Insects are a recurring musical inspiration; he’s caught, studied and released over 100 species. Chemistry and the elements influence some of his musical works; he’s collected over 58 elements of the periodic table. His love of reading, music theory, and drawing become integrated in his pieces. Schneider is currently a member of the New York Youth Symphony Composing Program and Conducting Program. At age 12, he was the youngest student ever to be included in Curtis’ esteemed Summerfest composition program. He’s the current two-time MTNA Junior State Piano Performance winner, and is the Associate Principal Cello with the Omaha Area Youth Symphony.
