DSE Presents “Tribute to Julius Baker” on January 18, 2015

The DSE family wishes all our friends a happy new year filled with thrilling music! Thank you for your enthusiasm and support for our playing and projects throughout 2014, and here’s to lots more memorable performances, recordings, and community engagement activities in 2015.

We look forward to welcoming you at our upcoming concerts, starting with “Tribute to Julius Baker” on Sunday, January 18, 2015 at 3:00pm at Trinity Center for Urban Life, 22nd and Spruce Streets, Philadelphia. Guest artist Jeffrey Khaner, principal flute of The Philadelphia Orchestra, will join DSE Artistic Director Mimi Stillman in honoring the memory of their beloved teacher, the legendary flutist Julius Baker. Gabriel Cabezas, cello, and Charles Abramovic, piano, will also perform in this program featuring trio sonatas by J.S. and C.P.E. Bach and the world premieres of 8 “Inventions” inspired by Bach by distinguished composers: Andrea Clearfield, Richard Danielpour, Daniel Dorff, Jeremy Gill, Heidi Jacob, Jan Krzywicki, Robert Maggio, and James Primosch.

We are also gearing up for our tour of South Carolina in February, where we will perform programs focused on our commissioned works for two major presenters of new music: Tree Falls Music in Spartanburg for a recital by Mimi Stillman and Charles Abramovic on February 21, and Southern Exposure at the University of South Carolina, Columbia on February 25 for works by Fang Man and Shulamit Ran with Lucy Shelton, soprano, Jamez McCorkle, baritone, and a Dolce Suono Ensemble sextet.
