Sarah Shafer artist photoWe interviewed soprano Sarah Shafer, core Dolce Suono Ensemble artist who returns for two performances this month, “Fall for Chamber Music” on October 15 and “Bach Masterworks” on October 27. Here you can get to know a bit more about Sarah before you enjoy her dazzling artistry!

DSE: Describe the moment you decided to become a musician.

SS: There wasn’t really one moment; as the daughter of musicians, music had been so deeply woven through my childhood that it was always something I wanted to do.

DSE: Who is your favorite composer? And for Season of the Word, who is your favorite writer?

SS: It’s a toss up between Bach and Mozart for me. My current favorite author (it changes!) is Anne Brontë.

DSE: What is your favorite thing to do outside of music?

SS: I love to read books and watch movies!

DSE: What has been your favorite project with DSE so far?

SS: It’s difficult to choose, but way back in 2013, Mimi introduced me to Debussy’s Ariettes oubliées for a concert, and I sang those songs for the first time with DSE. They are now some of my very favorite songs to sing, and I have performed them many times since, but I distinctly remember that magical experience performing them for the first time with DSE.

DSE: What are you most looking forward to in the DSE 2019-2020 Season?

SS: Getting to sing Bach with Mimi is always such a joy!
