Meet Ella Kaale

Emerging composer and cellist ELLA KAALE (b. 2003) seeks to write music that empowers the oppressed and embraces authentic identity. Kaale is an alumna of the MATA Jr. Festival and the Curtis Institute of Music Young Artist Summer Program, where she studied composition with Daniel Felsenfeld, Jonathan Bailey Holland, Wang Jie, David Ludwig, and Nina C. Young. She is also a two-time alumna of the American Festival for the Arts(AFA)Summer Composers Institute, where she participated in the Houston Ballet Academy Composer-Choreographer Collaboration. In addition to the Summer Music Festival, she has also participated in the AFA Film Scoring Program.

Some of Kaale’s honors include a Luna Composition Lab Honorable Mention, the Texas Music Scholar Award, the AFA Composition Faculty Excellence Award, the Parent-Teacher Association Reflections Fine Arts Competition National Award of Excellence, and an Honorable Mention for the NextNotes High School Music Creator Award. Kaale is currently participating in the New York Youth Symphony Composition Program. At her school, Kaale leads her cello section in the Varsity Chamber and Full Orchestras, participates in the TMEA Region XVII Orchestra, and serves as the President of her school’s Tri-M Music Honor Society chapter.
