Meet Carla Irizarry-Delgado

CARLA IRIZARRY-DELGADO is a bassoonist, composer and choral vocalist located in Florida. She was born in Puerto Rico in 2003. At the age of 5, she began her musical career by joining the San Juan Children’s Chorus and swiftly adopted piano as her primary instrument at the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music. Upon moving to Florida at age 10, she decided to play bassoon in Band and Orchestra, earning a full scholarship to attend the American Heritage School for her high school years. With the bassoon, she has earned several awards and participated in many honors ensembles and camps— most notably the All National Honor Band, the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, and the New World Symphony Side-By-Side Orchestra. Noting her love for music theory, she began taking composition lessons during her junior year of high school and was part of the Curtis Institute of Music Young Artists Summer Program in 2020. In the future, Carla wishes to pursue a career in health sciences while maintaining her love of music close to her heart.
