  • Gian Carlo Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors – the Philadelphia revival after 15 years in First Baptist Church, the historic venue where the work was first performed outside of the television broadcast in the 1950s.
  • Centennial of Menotti’s birth; 60th anniversary of the premiere of Amahl and the Night Visitors
  • Music by Ralph Vaughan-Williams, Salomone Rossi, and traditional Ashkenazic and Sephardic music completes the program

  • Lucy Shelton, soprano sings Schoenberg’s Pierrot Lunaire, her signature role, and premieres a new work by Shulamit Ran
  • Mahler’s Piano Quartet, Schoenberg’s Pierrot Lunaire, and world premiere by Shulamit Ran
  • The continuation of DSE’s 2-year Mahler 100 / Schoenberg 60 project, marking the 2011 anniversaries of Mahler and Schoenberg. The highly praised Year 1 concerts in May 2011    featured Eric Owens, bass-baritone and premieres by composers Steven Stucky, Steven Mackey, Fang Man, David Ludwig, and Stratis Minakakis
  • Concert surrounded by educational and community outreach events by artists and composer-in-residence Shulamit Ran
